Henry
“Henry's explosion of confidence within the hospital setting is all thanks to the Captains. They’re so fun, witty, kind and accepting and helped him feel at 'home' when he'd been so shy and timid” Jade, Henry’s Mum
At five years old, Henry’s life became consumed by hospital when he was diagnosed with Stage 5 Nephroblastoma (Wilms Tumour kidney cancer) after experiencing a sore and bloated tummy.
Admitted to hospital immediately, Henry would go on to endure 46 weeks of chemotherapy, three weeks of radiation, and nine hours of surgery to save his life.
Throughout his treatment, the Captains learned all about Henry’s love of clocks, shared silly jokes, played games, and helped create crafty masterpieces, all to brighten Henry’s hospital experience.
When you join Starlight Super Steps, you’ll help make hospital a happier place for sick kids like Henry. The money you raise will help bring laughter and happiness to sick kids when they need it most.
Thea
“Going to hospital makes me happy! Thanks for helping Captain Starlight make other kids in hospital happy too.” Thea
Little Thea’s family were thrown into a whirlwind of stress and grief when the three-year-old was suddenly diagnosed with eye cancer.
Forced to decide between trying an uncertain treatment, and removing their daughter’s eye, parents Jon and Maree were completely devastated.
For Thea, the distress of losing an eye and learning to live with her new “special eye” was incredibly hard. Luckily, Captain Starlight was there to help Thea smile throughout her entire ordeal!
“She associates her time in hospital as a super fun and positive experience that she would do all over again as long as Captain Starlight is there” Maree (Mum)

Mackie
“I love the Livewire community so much!” Mackie says. “Livewire has helped me through so many challenging times in my life and I will always be grateful for the support and encouragement.”Mackie
22-year-old Mackie has dreamt of wearing high heels since she was a little girl. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spasticity Diplegia (CP) at age two and told she would never walk - makes this no easy task. But nothing will get in the way of her Cinderella moment.
Being part of Livewire has helped Mackie cope with years of hospital and treatment. Livewire supports teens like Mackie who live with a chronic or serious health condition. It's a supportive community where teens can chat and openly share their experiences with their peers.
The Livewire community has helped keep Mackie motivated to achieve her dream to walk in high heels. Today, Mackie takes any opportunity to walk down a red carpet and show off her high-heels, and continues to defy all odds through Cinderella moments thanks to Starlight and Livewire!
“Livewire has helped me on my mission and encouraged and inspired me as I show people that with a little determination and persistence nothing is impossible. Watch out world: give a girl the right pair of shoes and she'll conquer the world.”Mackie
